About this place
A thick, dashi-rich curry broth is the signature draw at Hanako in Kamiueno-cho, Muko. The standout favourite among guests is the Kuroge Wagyu beef tendon curry udon, featuring generous portions of tender, slow-simmered beef tendon that meld into a rich soup that clings effortlessly to the noodles. The curry udon selection is surprisingly diverse, ranging from an extra-spicy bowl with adjustable heat levels to a deluxe version loaded with beef tendon and chikuwa tempura, as well as variations topped with melted cheese or Kyoto Mochi pork and spinach.
The homemade noodles, described as Kyoto-style Sanuki udon, combine a gentle chew with a satisfying bounce, holding up equally well in hot broth or served chilled with sauce. For a hearty midday meal, the Hanako Set is a dependable choice that lets diners tailor their lunch to their appetite. Options include pairing sweet simmered-tofu kitsune udon with crisp fried chicken, or opting for satisfying rice bowls such as katsudon or tempura-ju.
The dining room accommodates solo diners and groups alike with counter seats, booth seating, and spacious tatami areas suitable for families with small children. An easy stop by car thanks to generous free parking both on-site and in an adjacent rear lot, the shop also provides children's udon and mini curry sets, making it a relaxed neighbourhood fixture for casual dining.
